In a recent episode of Dueling Sourcers, the educational video series from TechRecruit providing tips, secrets, and hacks for sourcers everywhere, Principal Sourcing Leader/VP Greg Hawkes talks some different techniques and styles of sourcing talent. 

Greg says before he starts any job, he does research to familiarize himself with the position and required skills – whether it’s to hire someone in cyber security, manufacturing, or engineering. “I had no idea what a PLC engineer was. I had no idea what Allen-Bradley was. Allen-Bradley is not a person, it’s a technology.”

He usually starts with simple Google searches and looks for media sites and blogs from people working in those roles to learn more about them. “They are people just like us, engineers who are writing blogs,” he says. “Everybody blogs somewhere. There’s a forum out there for anyone you’re looking for.” Once you’ve located those people, its easy to make a connection and see if they’re interested in the roles you’re filling.
