In a recent episode of Dueling Sourcers, the educational video series from TechRecruit providing tips, secrets, and hacks for sourcers everywhere, Mike Santoro and Jeremy Bonewitz provided a number of great ideas to their viewers.

Mike explained that when doing an X-Ray search (also known as Boolean search) using Google’s Inanchor: Operator, it enables Google to search for specific query terms. Using this process can help if you’re looking for specific candidates but can’t find them just searching on LinkedIn.

“You can search for places or for things like LinkedIn headlines or for someone's geographical location,” he says. “You can look for the most recently attended schools, the most current company name, the candidate’s name, and any professional designations that are appended to the candidate’s name. So, these are all things that you can search for with an Inanchor: Operator when you do an X-Ray search. It's very, very powerful to be able to search for headlines, for example, because you can't do that easily on LinkedIn unless you have a recruiter account and use an advanced hidden operator.
