Dueling Sourcers: Pro Tips: Mark Tortorici Says Understand Skills Needed for Job Listing

In a recent episode of Dueling Sourcers, the educational video series from TechRecruit providing tips, secrets, and hacks for sourcers everywhere, Vanessa Raath and Mark Tortorici provided a number of great ideas to viewers.

Tortorici, who is a recruiter and sourcer training manager with 15-plus years of teaching internet recruiting methods, explained in the show that when you get a job title to fill, understand what that person actually does and the skills they need, as opposed to just going by their job title, when searching for potential candidates. Then he showed an example of how he would search for a specific title, including different required skills.

“It helps to understand what these people might be called in a job title, and they could be called anything, but it’s more important what they’re doing. They could be called software engineers, but really they’re just building a platform.”
