Learning Lab: Technology 101 for Recruiters

TechRecruit Learning Labs extend beyond the conference to offer deeper dives led by our most prominent speakers.

About this Event

What sets Generalists apart from Tech Recruiters? Technology Domain Expertise! Learning the Software Development Lifecycle is a critical first step. In this Learning Lab, Aaron Decker, Full Stack Software Engineer, will teach you the essentials every tech recruiter (and software engineer) must know.

Understanding the Software Development Lifecycle enables recruiters to:

1. Understand the Lifecycle - design, code, test, deploy & support.

2. Identify each position in relation to the development lifecycle.

3. Advise on transferable software development language skills.

4. Push back on expectations outside the scope of position requirements.

5. Optimize in-take meetings with Technical Hiring Managers.

6. Access Candidates technical background and experience.

7. Engage Technical Talent on the initial cold outreach.

8. Increase time-to-fill and retention rates.

What will I learn?

  • What developers want, and what they think about jobs and recruiters

  • What makes developers respond (or not) to recruiters

  • Frontend vs Backend

  • How software projects are run

  • Job descriptions and titles of people involved in making software

  • Tech stack deep dives (Java Spring, MEAN, .NET, Ruby on Rails, and more)

  • How common websites and apps work

  • DevOps and advanced topics like Docker and Kafka

I am in! Are you?! The success of a Tech Recruiter is embedded in their ability to ask the right questions and filter the answers through a deep understanding of the technical landscape. There is no better teacher than one who develops and builds critical software development applications themselves.

BONUS: Attendees will receive the Software Development Lifecycle Infographic to keep and use upon completion of the course. This at-a-glance poster will provide quick retrieval of the answers to tough tech position questions. Instructions on how to use the infographic will be provided in this course.
