Why Recruiters are Transitioning to Sourcers

While the Full Cycle Recruiter remains strong, the role of the Sourcer has gained momentum and popularity. Once thought of as the “admin for recruiters” Sourcing has evolved into Talent Intelligence and Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) earning Sourcers prominent stature at corporations savvy enough employ such organizational excellence. Leading the way in this evolution include thought leaders such as Dean Da Costa, Steve Levy, Mike Chuidian, Sarah Goldberg, Erin Matthews, Jeremy Da Costa and Jung Kim - just to name a few. In a recent TechRecruit podcast, we sat down with Mike Chuidian, Sr. Tech Sourcer at Walmart eCommerce, to discuss his role as a Sourcer.

“We are like Data Scientists.”

Mike’s role at Walmart involves deep research and automation capabilities. “In a way, we are like Data Scientists. One of the Sourcers on our team is a software engineer turned Sourcer. It’s incredibly rewarding working with him as I learn Python to automate searches.”

Sourcing has created a clear division in the tasks performed in recruitment. It will be interesting to see how the sourcing role continues to push the limits on finding data that cannot be found.
